American Slang - The Gaslight Anthem

A friend recently handed me American Slang’s The Gaslight Anthem CD (I get a lot of random CDs so I don’t really sit down and listen to them all) and after a week of it sitting in my car I decided to put it in my CD player. He told me “you’re gonna love them.” (Something I hear ALL the time, typically not true.) These guys, however, have been playing nonstop in my car ever since.

Listen to their single, and let me know what you think.

If you love them, like I do, you can buy their CD on Amazon.com (link above). I suggest you give the CD two good listens, the first will give you an idea of their sound, the second will suck you in and make you want to listen to them nonstop. (:

30 years of Bad Religion.

Thats right, the band Bad Religion has been going strong for 30 years! (Which seven years longer than I have been alive, crazy!) Check out Bad Religion: 30 Years, 30 Facts to Celebrate Their Anniversary and see if you find out any facts you didn’t already know. And if you’re not a big Bad Religion fan (or if you don’t even know of them at all) you should check out their Facebook page and get better acquainted! Congrats, Bad Religion, for 30 years of success!

Glad to know I’m not alone.

I heard this song the other day and it’s right on point for today. I work solely for the weekends. (Why are weekends so much shorter than weekdays? Unfair!)

I hope this song and old school MTV music video (back when MTV actually played music videos) will put you in a better mood to get through today and the rest of the week!

The Fireship

Thankfully, I was introduced to this band over the weekend. I’ve been listening to their YouTube page almost nonstop since my lovely introduction. These guys are awesome!

The Fireship are a relatively new band from Chicago hoping to add to the already reputable Chicago scene. The members are: Nicholas - vocals, Bradford - guitar, Benja - bass, Aaron - drums.

You can check them out on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. You can order their merchandise or EP here!

It’s true… It’s just another Manic Monday!

This Monday has already started off rocky… and it’s not even 10 a.m. It’s definitely going to be a Manic Monday for me. I don’t know many of the songs by The Bangles but this one fits my Monday perfectly!

I hope you, unlike me, you can’t relate to the song Manic Monday today… And if you can, keep your head up, we have a long week ahead!

The original is second best.

Filed under: Bands, Music, Random — Christy @ 4:05 pm May 4, 2010

It’s true in the case of these next few artists. The list of the 5 Song Covers More Popular Than the Original list artist like Whitney Houston and Run DMC as artist who covered a song and made it more popular. It makes me wonder what not-so-cool songs now will be made HOT, HOT, HOT by some unknown (or well-known) artist in the future. So cover bands, stick with it, you never know if people are going to like the way you cover a song better than the original.

The list (in case you just wanted to know at a glance) is:

5. Killing Me Softly With His Song
Originally- Roberta Flack
Made Popular - Fugees

4. Walk this Way
Originally - Aerosmith
Made Popular -  Run DMC

3. With a Little Help from My Friends
Originally -  Ringo Starr
Made Popular - The Wonder Years (loved this show by the way!)

2. I Will Always Love You
Originally - Dolly Parton
Made Popular - Whitney Houston

1. RESPECT
Originally - Otis Redding
Made Popular - Aretha Franklin

Although I know lists like this are in the eyes of the writer but I really liked this list. Most of these I knew before hand, but some caught me a little off guard. I even had to listen to the old and new versions to remember which ones popped out in my head.

Coachella anyone?

I went to Coachella a few years back and fell in love. This year, I didn’t have the chance to go because of budget and time… I’m almost glad I didn’t. I love this blog post The Six Stages of Attempting to Enter Coachella four and five are my favorites because I experienced both of those on my last Coachella adventure.

If anyone has any good pictures from Coachella that you would like to share, send them my way! I would love to see what the crowd and area looked like this year! If you did go to Coachella, I hope that you didn’t encounter all the problems with getting in!!

I’ll believe it when I see it…

Metallica and Black Sabbath teaming up for an album?! I’m skeptical that this will actually pan out but I LOVE the idea. If it had been posted today instead of yesterday I would have never believed it but for now, I’ll just hope that it’s true. Check out this brief article Metallica and Black Sabbath team up for limited edition single and let me know what you think!

Have a happy April Fools Day! Hopefully you aren’t the one being fooled!!
